Study

Film and TV

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Film and Television brings together industry’s traditions and new ways of content creation. The aim is give the students a broad understanding of different kinds of film and television genres, projects and production technologies.

The specialisations include production, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing and sound design. In addition to the selected study path, there is an option to learn e.g. directing, documentary work and live event production. The courses are being offered mostly in Finnish. The studies last four years and consist of courses, projects, internship and thesis work.

Film and Television has two master’s degree programmes too: MA in Screenwriting (90 ECTS cr) is offered via a joint programme with the School of Media, Music and Performance, University of Salford (UK). MA in Media Production (60 cr) is a Finnish programme for professionals working in the field of production or project management, offered every other year.

Media and Music Production

The focus of the programme is on interactive media content design and production, as of 2013 also music and event production.
The students learn about current media issues exploiting main study paths Interactive Media study path and Music Production study path. These main paths are divided into “sub study paths” (e.g game design, music business), which will help students in choosing their specialisation. Choosing studies across other study paths is also possible.

The first year provides a broad perspective on digital design, production business, and skills in the selected specialisation. The following three years consist of secondary subject studies, working with customers, studies abroad, practical training, the bachelor’s thesis and free choice studies.
The areas of application include web design and services, game design, visual design and motion graphics, production and content design, music production and music business, song writing, sound design, event production, entrepreneurship and cultural export.
Studying in the Media Programme is typically hands-on, project-based, business-oriented, international and most often conducted in cooperation with partner companies.

Internationality

The Art and Media programmes have 30 partner universities in 15 countries. Additionally, the students can do their international exchange period in one of the 160 partner schools of Tampere University of Applied Sciences. We are member in ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts), CILECT (International Association of Cinema and Television Schools) and ELDA (European Lighting and Design Association), as well as a dynamic partner in the EUROPRIX Multimedia Art network.

Connection To Industry

The Media and Arts programmes are involved in the organisation of annual international events, such as the Tampere International Short Film Festival and the MindTrek Conference. The closest company partners include Finnish television channels such as Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle, Research Institute of Nokia, Alma Media and a large number of independent production companies of audiovisual and digital media. The cooperation with the appropriate institutes of University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology is tight.

Experts Cooperation

Expert partners include the Association of Independent Producers in Finland SATU, National Technology Agency TEKES, the National Centre of Expertise of Digital Contents and Neogames, the Finnish Centre of Game Business, Research and Development. The local cultural partners are among others Tampere Artists Association, Museum Centre Vapriikki, Gallery Rajatila, Arts Centre Maltinranta, Tampere Hall, The Cultural Administration of the City of Tampere and the local theatres.

Where we are

The TAMK Mediapolis campus is located by the lake Tohloppi in the western part of Tampere, about 6,5 km from the city center, with good public traffic connections.
