Anne Järvi: Washday in Ikuinen Gallery

7.2.-24.2.

Finlaysoninkuja 3

Washday.
I get all my used skins together.
The machine is packed. I measure the washing powder.
I choose the program.
Spinning makes the glasses in the living room jingle.

I hang my washings on the line to dry.

Washday asks a question about identity. A person has several identities: We are different when we are with different people. We act differently in different kind of situations. We have various identities for various occasions, and every identity has its own preferences. Still we talk about person’s true identity. Does that mean one of the identities is the real one? Or are they all real? Is there something combining them all? Or are identities like clothes, and we choose one according the situation?
